Ventrilo is a trendy proprietary Voice over IP program. Client programs are available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Like a telephone conference call, the majority of Ventrilo users apply a headset or microphone and use the program to talk freely to each other via a ventrilo server.

Usage of Ventrilo Server
First you have to download and install a ventrilo server. Secondly you download and install a client ventrilo software. The Ventrilo client is given as freeware and is made for Microsoft Windows. There is also a prototype version for Mac OS X, and future support is intended for the Linux operating system. Newer versions of the ventrilo server are available under a restrictive license and are available for Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris, NetBSD and FreeBSD.

The default sound quality is as good as a telephone sound but it can be switched to a better quality by changing to a other codec. The Ventrilo programmers have attempted to keep its bandwidth to a minimum but users with a low-bandwidth dial-up connection may still find themselves limited to using low quality settings.

Ventrilo server / client is frequently used by multiplayer PC game players. Players can use the program to talk with other players on the same team of a multiplayer game. Players can use their hands on the mouse and communicate via headset. This kind of fast and simple communication is vital for those who take part in electronic sports. Ventrilo server is also popular among players of other genres of online games, especially MMORPG games and real-time strategy games.

Versions of Ventrilo Server and licensing
The up to date version of Ventrilo is 2.3.0 or 2.3.1 depending on OS. After version 2.1.2, Flagship Industries changed the software license leading the Ventrilo server to limit link capacity of the freeware server to only 8 users. An extremely restrictive license was also debuted for the “Pro” server which supports more than 8 simultaneous users. Among other restrictions, only large hosting companies may purchase licenses for the “Pro” server at the sole discretion of Flagship Industries.

BUT… you are here to discover the way to bypass these restrictions. Official Ventrilo server site does not have proper download area…or they simply just removed older versions of Ventrilo server. Now, for new players it can be difficult to find old unrestricted versions of Ventrilo server. You are lucky to find all “good” versions on one place.
