Their rate of growth never ceases to slow. Judging by this mindset of speeds that keep advancing, one would imagine that the internet providers must also keep up a steady rate of growth.
However, it seems if anyone isn’t keeping up with current technology, it is the communication providers. Computers have doubled in speeds, yet DSL and cable internet speeds remain the same for residential consumers as they were 5 years ago.
So how are they going to bring us the advances in residential connection technology that we are bound to receive?

uh where do you live? broadband speeds are continuously growing. Comcast just announced at the start of the year that there speed will be 100mps by 2009. Plus you probably don’t even have NICs, routers/switches, or even the cables to support the max speed your ISP gives you anyway. Its pointless for the to increase the speed when the majority of us aren’t even using our full bandwidths. There are many changes all going on but it takes time for everyone to catch up to the point at which theycan switch over. The switch to IPv6 is a good example of this.

Uh, AT&T fan girl, AT&T sucks. So does Cingular cellular service. AT&T is one of the largest growing scams in the nation. They are a money sucking giant which offers extremely little to their customers. They work on the basis of a monopoly organization. In other words, you have to pay what they ask or else you are screwed. They can do this because they own most of the communication lines from back in the day when internet was non-existant. If you chose a competitor, most likely that competitor has to gain a lease through AT&T. So no matter who you use, it is always a win-win situation for AT&T.
Since it is like this, AT&T can continue to offer next to nothing, and still remain one of the largest moneymakers. It is a sad thing really when you think about it, but it just so happens to be something we must deal with here.
I too live in a populated residential area, and no, communication providers are not doing anything to help the middle-class residential users. Sure there are specialty DSL services costing over $100 monthly, but what they are bringing you is years old technology which should be offered at a fraction of that cost.
In the standard consumer internet world, average people get screwed with connection rates and offerings. That’s all there really is to it.

AT&T is setting the standard for a new era of communications and entertainment. It is the largest telecommunications company in the United States and one of the largest in the world. AT&T has just joined forces with Bell South, SBC, and Cingular to become the New AT&T.
